Not near the Pacific, but....!

Overall, this hotel was good value for the money. They also had tennis courts available, but no pool. The location was within walking distance of the central market, which was interesting. Also near the local pagoda. Needed a taxi from the boat quay, when we arrived - $2 to get to hotel (11/09). Hotel was clean, new, and nicely furnished. I would definately recommend it to folks who like a little more comfort and cleanliness than some of the backpacker hotels along the quay. restaurant had a good selection of both western and asian dishes.

Liked — This hotel was very pleasant to stay in. We had a huge, quiet room, comfortable beds, and a beautiful bathroom. The included breakfast was a buffet with many options. Nice staff with good English.
Disliked — Bathroom shower flooded all over the floor. Housekeeping cleaned it up very quickly. Drain needed to be cleaned out. Be careful of making connecting reservations with the reception desk. The young man sold us a first class bus ticket to Can Tho but we were put on a local bus (which cost one third the price that we paid). Terrible ride to Can Tho, being sandwiched into a minibus made for 12 but seating 20, with as many stops! We figured the reception clerk may have pocketed the extra money and shared it with his cronies.
Tips/Secrets — Central Market was lively, varied and interesting to walk through. Some good buys here.

Awesome Budget Hotel !

Did not post a review of this hotel after staying there 4 nights in June 2008. Poking around the internet now and started reading reviews, I felt I owed it to this place to tell of my positive experience. Asked for and got a quiet room away from the street side. Overlooked a tenement type property which gave me insight into how the locals live. The room, bed, bathroom, water pressure and AC were all fine. Laundry service used 2 times, very good. There is 24 hour security at the door and 24 hour front desk service. Door held for me every time I came and went. Yes, the key system in the elevator is a little awkward (but another security measure), but every time I struggled one of the doormen came to my assistance. One time I was sure I had lost the key and went to the front desk with my $20 bill in hand. Somehow I had left it at the front desk and they were all smiles as they pulled it out for me. They could have easily taken my $20. There are two inexpensive internet places within one block so no need to fuss with the one or two computers in the hotel lobby. Yes, breakfast is very simple and the quality is just fair, but how many gargantuan buffet breakfasts can one eat. The towel may have been thin-it's hot outside you'll dry off fast. I enjoyed going to the local restaurants on the main street, was treated well, in some cases better than anywhere in USA and I wasn't spending a lot of money. Tuk Tuk drivers right outside the door, I can't remember the name of the one I used, but he is a little more burly than the others and he was a fantastic tuk tuk driver. I was travelling alone, so when I stopped for a meal I had him come with me. He was so appreciative and of course we went to several good local places I might have otherwise missed. All this for $25/night. No taxes of any kind, the 2 laundry services came to $6, so my total bill was $106.

Nice Efficient hotel, well located !

The hotel was very clean and well organized. The room had a shower with good water pressure and a tub, toiletries in the bathroom, a reasonable priced mini-bar, and a good firm bed. The hotel is well located within a 20 min. walk to the Quay (river) area; 5 min. walk to the old market and a new six-story shopping mall. The free daily breakfast was not great but adequate with coffee, eggs & sausage. The lobby had two internet computers. They were slow, but cheap. There are plenty of tuk-tuks and motos available around the hotel for quick transportation. The staff was very efficient. They arranged pick up at the bus station and bought our bus tickets for HoChiMinh City. They also arranged a driver to visit the genocide museum and the Killing Fields. One side of the hotel is located on a very busy street and noise could be a problem. Make sure you request an inner room if you plan to get some sleep. We did and it was no problem. I highly recommend the Pacific Hotel of a stay in Phnom Penh.
