This morning we embark on a visit of the Roluos Temple Complex. The complex represents the remains of the first major capital of the Khmer empire, and is comprised of the following principal monuments: Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei.

Angkor Thom           Phimeanakas

The Bayon contains 54 towers decorated with more than 200 enigmatic smiling faces. Also included in the mornings tour is the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of Elephants and Terrace of Leper Kings, as well as The Ta Prohm Temple.

After lunch, we discover Ta Som, Neak Pean and Preah Khan. Preah Khan (which means “Sacred Sword”) was originally a Buddhist monastery school; the monument has an array of interesting artistic and architectural features. The rest of the day is free.

check  Day 4: Tonle Sap 2.5 hour boat trip

Not far from the impressive Angkor Complex lies the huge Tonle Sap Lake. It is one of the world’s most productive bodies of fresh water. In the wet season, the Tonle Sap Lake swells to 12,000 km². During the dry half of the year, the lake on the contrary shrinks to as small as 2500 km², draining into the Tonle Sap River. Each year, millions of fish come to spawn in the seasonally flooded forest surrounding the lake, attracting a myriad of water birds as well as people, who have settled in villages along the shores and who live with the rhythm of the water. This ecosystem has been classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997.

Floating village in Tonle Sap lake           Tonle Sap Cruise

You will be driven 15 km South of Siem Reap where you will take a small boat and discover some floating villages as well as the wildlife of the lake. The rest of the day is free to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 5: Beng Mealea

This morning, we head to Beng Mealea Temple, located in the countryside east of Siem Reap. The rest of the day is free at leisure until your transfer to the airport.

Draft itinerary:

Day 1: Roluos Temple Complex & Angkor Wat (L)
Day 2: Angkor Thom, Angkor National Museum & Dinner Dance Show (L/D)
Day 3: Banteay Srey – Preah Khan (L)
Day 4: Tonle Sap 2.5 hour boat trip
Day 5: Beng Mealea

Highlights tour:

At its heart, Siem Reap is still a little charmer, with old French shop-houses, shady tree-lined boulevards and a slow-flowing river. But it is expanding at breakneck speed with new houses and apartments, hotels and resorts sprouting like mushrooms in the surrounding countryside. The tourist tide has arrived and locals are riding the wave. Not only is this great news for the long-suffering Khmers, but it has transformed the town into a pulsating place for visitors. Forget the naysayers who mutter into their beers about Siem Reap in the ‘old days’, now is the time to be here, although you may curse your luck when stuck behind a jam of tour buses on the way back from the temples.

          The Bayon   Phimeanakas

Angkor is a place to be savoured, not rushed, and this is the base to plan your adventures. Still think three days at the temples is enough? Think again with Siem Reap on the doorstep

Good Morning Tony, so very nice to hear from you again.

I received lots of emails from Kate during their holiday in Vietnam and can assure you that they had a truly wonderful trip and enjoyed it as much as we did.

They were very grateful that we had recommended Impress Travel to them.

They have not yet returned to Tasmania as they are spending some time in South Australia with their daughter, but we have spoken to them with regard to catching up with them shortly after their return.

We definitely hope to return to Vietnam in the future and would like to bring some more friends when we do.

I think I mentioned previously that our youngest son is getting married next February, so next year we will need to assist financially with that, but hopefully in 2012.

I couldn’t convince my son and his fiancée to come to Vietnam for their honeymoon, they have settled on Langkawi, but I am sure they will get to your country one day.

They love to travel very much.

We have received nice emails from Thoi and Cindy (our guides in Hoi An and Hanoi) which is really good.

From our trip, there is not a thing you need to improve, I will mention to Kate and Peter that you would appreciate their feedback as well on their tour.

It is the first day of spring here today and hopefully the weather will begin to warm up.  We took our grandchildren up the mountains to the snow last weekend which was beautiful, but I long for some warmer days.

Thankyou for your email again, I appreciate you keeping in touch, be assured we will continue to recommend your travel agency to any other friends wishing to tour Vietnam.

Kind Regards,

Janeece Cook,

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your email. Sorry I have been slow getting back to you, but since returning home we have been busy (as you can imagine). Both Peter and I are back at work now, but we feel very refreshed and revitalised from our fantastic holiday. We loved everything we saw. The highlights for me were the Mekong Delta, Hoi An and Sapa.

If we had the good fortune to return to Vietnam we would like to do a homestay either in the Mekong Delta or Sapa. We absolutely loved those areas and could easily have spent more time there. We also liked Nha Trang and would liked to have stayed there for another day too.

It was just wonderful to have a guide and driver meet us at the airport and drive us around to the various attractions.

I have enclosed a photo of you and Peter taken in Hanoi.

Thank you once again Tony. We very much appreciate what you have done for us while we were in Vietnam.

Kind regards,

Kate and Peter
