Saigon city tour 1 day

Map

Operation : Daily
Duration : 1 day
Tour route : Reunification Palace - Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral - War Remains Museum - Jade Emperor Temple - Chinese temples - Ben Thanh market.
Brief description : Ho Chi Minh City, the industrial hub of Vietnam, has huge resources to draw your attention. This dynamic city being the cultural trendsetter constitutes the core of Vietnam. It is also the biggest city of the nation and considered as the economic capital of the country. The Ho Chi Minh City features French colonial architecture mingled with Chinese influences. The city was once known as Saigon. Later the government of Ha Noi changed its name to Ho Chi Minh City. However its previous name, Saigon, is still more popular among people of Vietnam. The city with its bustling street markets, cafes, shops, pagodas and museums offers a microcosmic view of the entire nation.

Detailed itinerary:

AM: Impress Travel team will pick you up from hotel at 8.30 Am. We will visit to the Re Unification Palace, the former palace of President Thieu and his predecessors.

Today this building is a museum and venue for official receptions. You can visit the private rooms of the president, the “War Room” from where the South Vietnamese forces were controlled, and, most poignantly, the room where the North Vietnamese army finally took control in 1975.

Nearby is the Post Office and the Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral , built between 1877 and 1883 and one of the city’s major landmarks. Neo-Romanesque in form, Notre Dame is the major seat of the Catholic religion in modern Vietnam.

We continue to the War Remains Museum, where you can learn a lot about the Vietnam War. Lunch with Vietnamese delicacies.

PM: we will visit to Jade Emperor Temple, one of the oldest Chinese temples in Saigon. The last sight we will visit is Ben Thanh market, where all kind of goods are offered.

Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral

Saigon Reunification palace

Highlights tour

+ Reunification Palace:Reunification Palace  formerly known as Independence Palace  built on the site of the former Norodom Palace, is a historic landmark in  Ho Chi Minh city , Vietnam. It was designed by architect Ngo Viet Thu as the home and workplace of the President of South Vietnam during the  Vietnam War and the site of the official handover of power during the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. It was then known as Independence Palace, and an NVA tank crashed through its gates, as recorded by Neil Davis.

+ Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral : Situated right in the heart of Hochiminh City is the most famous landmark as well as core Cathedral of the city, Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral (translated as “Nhà thờ Đức Bà Sài Gòn).
Notre-Dame Cathedral, or Notre-Dame Basilica to be exact, is a famous age-long cathedral in Southern Vietnam. It is a magnificient building located at the paris Square in Hochiminh City downtown, attracting not only Catholics but also most tourists for its neo-Romanesque style architecture and a sacred atmosphere.

+ War Remains Museum:  The War Remnants Museum, or War Crimes Museum, is a must see for anyone interested in late 20th century history. The tanks, helicopters, planes and arms on display are not what makes of this such an important visit. What draws most visitors here are the images on display. Visitors can see the effects of the weapons of mass destruction used by the Americans during The Vietnam War (or American War, as locals call it).

+ Ben Thanh market: The Benh Thanh market, seems to be another albeit somewhat smaller typical market you will find in South East Asia. Selling the usual ,T-shirts, jeans jewelry ,sunglasses, silks and souvenirs. Again it is a typical rabbit warren ,not big enough to get lost in , But enough to maybe find a few useful things for your travels or some presents. There is also a night market that starts at 6 PM , again with the same products, but a nice area of outdoor cafes

Good Morning Tony, so very nice to hear from you again.

I received lots of emails from Kate during their holiday in Vietnam and can assure you that they had a truly wonderful trip and enjoyed it as much as we did.

They were very grateful that we had recommended Impress Travel  to them.

They have not yet returned to Tasmania as they are spending some time in South Australia with their daughter, but we have spoken to them with regard to catching up with them shortly after their return.

We definitely hope to return to Vietnam in the future and would like to bring some more friends when we do.

I think I mentioned previously that our youngest son is getting married next February, so next year we will need to assist financially with that, but hopefully in 2012.

I couldn’t convince my son and his fiancée to come to Vietnam for their honeymoon, they have settled on Langkawi, but I am sure they will get to your country one day.

They love to travel very much.

We have received nice emails from Thoi and Cindy (our guides in Hoi An and Hanoi) which is really good.

From our trip, there is not a thing you need to improve, I will mention to Kate and Peter that you would appreciate their feedback as well on their tour.

It is the first day of spring here today and hopefully the weather will begin to warm up.  We took our grandchildren up the mountains to the snow last weekend which was beautiful, but I long for some warmer days.

Thankyou for your email again, I appreciate you keeping in touch, be assured we will continue to recommend your travel agency to any other friends wishing to tour Vietnam.

Kind Regards,

Janeece Cook,

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your email. Sorry I have been slow getting back to you, but since returning home we have been busy (as you can imagine). Both Peter and I are back at work now, but we feel very refreshed and revitalised from our fantastic holiday. We loved everything we saw. The highlights for me were the Mekong Delta, Hoi An and Sapa.

If we had the good fortune to return to Vietnam we would like to do a homestay either in the Mekong Delta or Sapa. We absolutely loved those areas and could easily have spent more time there. We also liked Nha Trang and would liked to have stayed there for another day too.

It was just wonderful to have a guide and driver meet us at the airport and drive us around to the various attractions.

I have enclosed a photo of you and Peter taken in Hanoi.

Thank you once again Tony. We very much appreciate what you have done for us while we were in Vietnam.

Kind regards,

Kate and Peter
